Healthy food environment

Childhood is a great time to develop healthy eating habits for children. Parents and educators in early learning centres like Buttercups have an important role in this process, encouraging children to try a variety of different foods on offer, developing positive eating behaviours and generally creating a healthy food environment.

Children learn about the different food groups and the importance of a varied diet, but a new study has found that the environment during meal times and the interactions between children and parents or educators plays is just as important as what they consume in order to support the development of healthy eating habits and the maintenance of a healthy weight in childhood.
