Healthy drinks

Water is our no. 1 choice to quench our thirst at Buttercups Childcare & Kindy. As a general guide, children up to 8 years of age should have a minimum of 4-5 cups of water a day. Access to children’s water bottles is available throughout the day and we actively encourage children to drink water at meal times and at regular intervals – especially during the hotter months of the year.

Research has shown that adding flavour to water increases the amount of fluid consumed voluntarily. Try these healthy ways to help boost water intake with your child:

• Add a slice of lemon or lime to give water a different taste

• Use herbs including mint or spices such as ginger to flavour the water

• Freeze fresh fruits and use them as ice cubes in glasses of water

Do you have any tips on how to get your child to drink enough water? A fancy water bottle maybe? Let us know in the comments!
