Buttercups Centre’s Unite for Mother’s Day Donation Drive

A group of Buttercups Childcare Centre’s across Perth have come together to launch a donation raffle in the lead-up to Mother’s Day.

The initiative, led by Kathleen McDonough, Centre Manager at Buttercups Yanchep, was inspired by a desire to create something more meaningful than traditional celebrations.

“I wanted to do something different for Mother’s Day instead of a morning tea, as many parents find it difficult to attend due to time and work commitments,” Kathleen said. “I came up with the idea of a donation raffle that would benefit mothers, women and families in general.”

“I chose the Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence as they provide vital services and safe support for families experiencing domestic violence,” she said.

The Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence is a not-for-profit organisation that supports women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. They provide vital services including safe accommodation, outreach support and emergency care packages for those in crisis. Their work plays an important role in helping families find safety, stability and a pathway forward during difficult times.

After selecting Patricia Giles Centre, Kathleen reached out to understand what support was most urgently needed, learning that care packages for families in crisis were running low with only a few remaining.

What was originally just going to be from the Yanchep Centre, other centres including Mindarie, Bassendean, Beechboro, Maddington, Mandogalup and Wandi quickly joined the initiative, with support from fellow centre managers and area leadership helping to expand reach.

“The response from families and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with many parents choosing to donate without entering the raffle, motivated purely by the cause. Staff also contributed generously, despite being ineligible to enter the draw.” Says Kathleen.

Participating centres have shared regular updates on social media to maintain momentum and raise awareness within their communities. Donations have already been collected from most locations, with final contributions expected later this week. Raffle draws are scheduled to take place on 11 May 2026.

The initiative highlights the power of community collaboration, with small acts of generosity coming together to make a meaningful difference for women and families in need this Mother’s Day.

We thank everyone who has made kind donations. To learn more or support the Patricia Giles Centre for Non-Violence, visit their website linked below.
