Buttercups Childcare Rallies Behind Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

At Buttercups Childcare, we’ve seen firsthand how cancer can touch so many lives. That’s why we’re proud that all our centres across Perth are taking part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on 22 May, partnering with Cancer Council to raise essential funds for cancer research, support services, prevention programs, and advocacy.

In a personal and heartfelt appeal, Managing Director Steve Goldsworthy shared his own connection to the cause. “Cancer has deeply affected my family. My mother, two aunties, and cousin have all battled breast cancer. My aunties and cousin survived, but my mother passed away after her third round of cancer that spread to her brain. That loss still impacts me today, and it’s why supporting cancer research and services is incredibly important to me,” said Steve.

To further boost fundraising efforts, for every dollar raised – up to up to $5,000 – Steve Goldsworthy will personally match it with an additional dollar, and Buttercups Childcare will also contribute a dollar. This effectively turns every $1 donation into $3, potentially raising a total of $15,000 for cancer research and support services.

“As a father, I can’t help but worry about how my family history may affect my daughters and what the future might hold. That’s why we’re committed to making every dollar count. By making a donation online, you can help us make a real difference.” Steve added.

Funds raised during the event will go towards supporting Cancer Council’s essential work:

  • $150 can help pay for the collection and storage of a tumour sample used in cancer prevention and detection studies.
  • $250 can provide a week of scholarship funding for a PhD research student or support a lab assistant for a day.
  • $500 can help train leaders of cancer support groups, offering emotional support to those affected.
  • $1,000 can enable Cancer Council’s health professionals to provide information and practical support to 15 people affected by cancer.
  • $5,000 can fund educational initiatives that raise awareness about breast, bowel, and cervical cancer screenings.

Community members are invited to contribute online via the dedicated fundraising page.
